a night’s distance

It is how you say good night
with a slight indifference
as if you wish to hold
me tight and yet keep
your cold feet away.

We sleep our long marriage,
take turns to snore dreams.
The night grows dim,
palms face the ceiling,
releasing our patience.

When the purple dawn comes
our bodies caress against each other,
separate with a Good Morning.
It is time to pretend
another good day is feasible.
